GeoPulse

GeoPulse is the dispatcher solution for situational awareness and asset management. GeoPulse supports a variety of base maps and geospatial layers, allowing the user to tailor their experience.  Designed to be easy to use and understand the big picture at a glance, GeoPulse brings a much needed incident awareness ability for the user to create new points of interest on the map. These points can be easily moved and removed as the situation changes, allowing for real-time information sharing and updates.

Challenge

In a dispatching situation, users need to be able to create, monitor, and observe not only the incident at hand, but the materials and personnel that are responding. Dispatchers need to be alerted when the situation is becoming increasingly more dangerous and be able to communicate within the field. The user will need a clear display with personalized icons to help with incident management.

User Research

GeoPulse would often be used in a dispatching situation. Responders may also use GeoPulse to help with post-emergency documentation. The goal is to understand what dispatchers and emergency personnel need to have the means to add in new resources such as sensors, vehicles, and personnel with ease and understanding.

Dispatcher

Automatic updating is key when dealing with a large amount of data, dispatchers need to know where incidents and resources are at every second without manually refreshing the dashboard.

The data displayed needs to make sense visually without any room for guessing games. Dispatchers have to act fast, so all aspects from icons on the map to how many assets are in use should be easy to decipher without any hassle.

Fleet Manager

Driver safety is a huge focus for fleet managers. In addition to the human safety factor, there’s insurance, maintenance, and loss of productivity with downtime of both responders and vehicles.

Simplified vehicle maintenance to make management as easy and manageable as possible.

Effective communication so responders fully understand what the situation holds

Analysis

Since such a large part of dispatch software functionality comes from tracking the location and status of the assets, it’s no surprise that the most essential component is intuitive and reliable GPS tracking and mapping functionality. This feature uses traffic predictions and advanced routing to ensure the field responder arrives safely on time. Real-time access to the current traffic conditions makes it much easier to adapt and give your mobile workforce the best possible routes. Dispatchers require mobile access for accessibility and a convenient communications channels. The need for effective fleet management and being able to assign personnel and resources to a certain situation and knowing when a resource is in danger or in need of repairs.

Wireframes

Trying to decide between displaying all aspects in the dashboard on one main screen, or divvying up the screens between tabs was the difficulty I faced in deciding how the dashboard should be set up. Most people would assume the dashboard would have a bunch of knobs, gears, and statistics being shown at once, In an emergency, a dispatcher needs to be able to decide what function to use without having to decipher between a bunch of extra features.

Product Screens

Dispatchers have many display options within the map. They are able to choose between map-bases, layers specific to their jurisdictions, and can create reports directly on the map. The map is the key focus of the product, but users are still able to look up resource information, images, and communicate with responders in the field with the click of their finger.
